Minor in Mathematics

Mathematics will also be offered as a minor for students doing a major in physics, CS, CSE, ECE, ESS or any other relevant discipline. Such major-minor combination will stand the students in good stead in the job market. The details of the minor in mathematics programme are given below:

Total Credits Requirement: (27 credits)

There will be seven compulsory courses, each of three credits, which are as follows:

1. MAT 111: Principles of Mathematics
2. MAT 211: Calculus II
3. MAT 221: Real Analysis I
4. MAT 223: Numerical Analysis I
5. MAT 311: Abstract Algebra
6. MAT 316: Operations Research I
7. MAT 322: Differential Equations II

Students may choose any two courses from the following list of elective courses each of three credits offered by the MNS Department.

1. MAT 312: Numerical Analysis II
2. MAT 321: Real Analysis II
3. MAT 325: Mathematical Methods
4. MAT 326: Hydrodynamics
5. MAT 411: Topology
6. MAT 415: Finite Element Methods
7. MAT 416: Tensor Calculus
8. MAT 421: Fluid Mechanics
9. MAT 422: Theory of Numbers
10. MAT 423: Mathematical Modeling
11. MAT 424: Operations Research II
12. MAT 425: Advanced Numerical Methods

or any other mathematics course with the permission of the Chairperson of the MNS Department.
