Dear BRACU Students:

I would like to begin by wishing you good luck on your summer term examinations. As you know, several issues have come to light over the past few days, and I wanted to take a moment to address you all.

First, I'd like to reiterate that BRAC University is fully committed to preparing you for the future and helping you develop into strong leaders and agents of change across Bangladesh and globally. You have expressed opinions on various issues (e.g. grading practices, need for senior teachers, quality of teaching, campus safety, need to channel student voice, etc.). I will address them expeditiously and keep you informed.

Second, the way you shared your opinions over the past few days was generally peaceful. I commend you for having shown restraint and respect for others, as well as for private and public property. As you know, I asked an independent committee (that includes a student representative and a member of the Alumni Association) to investigate two issues. Additional issues brought to our attention are also being investigated by a separate committee. We now ask for your patience, as we allow the process to work –expeditiously but with thoroughness.

Third, even after the specific situation at hand is resolved, I would like to continue to hear directly from you about what is working well at BRAC University and what you feel are our major areas for improvement. Providing you all with a positive learning environment is our highest priority, and I would like to keep productive channels of communication open among students, faculty, and the administration. In the spirit of open dialogue, I encourage you to share your views with your professors or Department Chairs, as appropriate. Here are a few additional ways for you to provide feedback:

  • BRACUvoice[at]gmail[dot]com: We have set up this new account to collect and review all concerns/suggestions submitted by students.
  • Staff Engagement: I will appoint a dedicated staff member (to be announced) to meet with you to exchange views. I would also like to meet with small groupsat appointed times to discuss various ideas and/or concerns.


Finally, know that each of you contributes to making BRAC University what it is today. I am proud of what we have accomplished together over the past few years (such as Onnesha and many other significant achievements of the student body). This has been a learning opportunity that I intend to use to forge ahead with changes to further strengthen BRACU. I hope to continue along our journey to take this institution to the next level, espousing BRACU values and pride.

ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ঐতিহ্য ও সাফল্য গুলোকে অব্যাহত রাখা ও সামনে এগিয়ে যাওয়ার প্রয়াসে নেয়া পদক্ষেপগুলোতে আশা করা যাচ্ছে যে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তার স্বাভাবিক কার্যক্রমে ফেরত আসবে এবং আগামীকাল বুধবার থেকে শুরু হতে যাওয়া সেমেস্টার ফাইনাল পরীক্ষা যথারীতি শুরু হবে। উল্লেখ্য যে, সম্প্রতি ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে সংঘটিত কিছু অনভিপ্রেত ঘটনায় ছাত্রদের মধ্যে অসন্তোষ দেখা দেয়। সেই ঘটনার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষ সামগ্রিক অবস্থা বিবেচনা করে ও বৃহত্তর স্বার্থ রক্ষায় কিছু পদক্ষেপ নেয়। পদক্ষেপ সমূহ হলো:

১। রেজিস্ট্রার দীর্ঘমেয়াদি ছুটিতে গিয়েছেন । বর্তমান ট্রেজারার এস এন কৈরী অস্থায়ী রেজিস্ট্রারের অতিরিক্ত দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন।

২। অভিযুক্ত দুইজন অফিসার তাদের পদত্যাগ পত্র জমা দিয়েছেন যা কর্তৃপক্ষ গ্রহণ করেছেন।

৩। ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জনাব ফারহান উদ্দিন আহমেদ কে দেয়া অব্যাহতি পত্র প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে।

৪। ঘটনার তদন্তের জন্য গঠিত ইনকোয়ারি কমিটি তার কার্যক্রম চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে এবং শীঘ্রই তাদের প্রতিবেদন পেশ করবে।

৫। ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের অভিযোগের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ডিস্সিপ্লিনারি কমিটি তার তদন্তের কাজ শুরু করেছে।

Note: University Admissions tests will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 in the morning shift only; so, it is possible to provide classrooms in the afternoon slots from 2 pm for administering exams if needed.

Digital ID card for students is being launched from July 16, 2017. Use of current hard copy ID card & Digital ID card shall continue on trial basis till 30 August 2017. Exclusive use of Digital ID card by Students shall be effective from 1st September 2017.

Students are advised to update "BRACU Mobile App" in mobile device from Google Playstore and generate digital ID card by clicking on the icon "ID Card" in the main menu.

Scholarships / Financial Aid for Summer-2017

Students interested to apply for Scholarships / Financial Aid under any category will need to submit both the recommended application form of BRAC University, available at the Information desk and the Online application form.

(Login to your usis account and click on the scholarship button) *If unable to complete the online application, please contact the Information Desk

  • All new applicants will be required to pay 400/- at the time of submission of the filled out form.
  • Students applying for their Performance Based tuition fee waiver will be required to pay a fee of 400/- at the time of submission of the filled out form.
  • Students applying for renewal of their tuition fee waiver in all categories need not to pay any fee.

Forms will be available at the information desk from June 11, 2017. The last date for submitting the filled out form along with grade sheets and photocopy of advising form is June 22, 2017.

The last date for paying tuition fees for the applicants of Scholarships and Financial Aid for Summer-2017 is July 13, 2017 (Thursday).

  • No late fees will be charged within this time.

Note: Scholarship must be adjusted before Mid-term of the respective semester.

Please note that all categories of tuition fee waiver will depend on the availability of fund.

Call for BRAC Scholarship Application (Fall-2017)

BRAC Scholarship offers full tuition waiver, living allowance and book allowance (in some cases) to meritorious students who come from disadvantaged financial communities.

Interested BRACU students with CGPA ≥3.00 and obtained a GPA of 4.00 from Science, Arts and Commerce (Without 4th subject) in SSC and HSC or Equivalent and whose monthly family income is not more than Tk. 20,000/- (Taka Twenty Thousand only) may apply for BRAC Scholarship.

All applicants are required to submit both the recommended application form of BRAC University, available at the Information desk and the Online application form.

All applicants are required to submit both the recommended application form of BRAC University, available at the Information desk and the Online application form.
