Students of the Department of English and Humanities (ENH) of BRAC University (BRACU) staged Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People” at the auditorium of the Mohakhali campus on 29 March 2018 as a part of a course titled ENG 461: Modern English Drama.
The satirical play is one of Oscar Wilde's most well known creations as well as being an enormous success in his lifetime. Critics of Victorian society delivered in a humorous manner in this play, aptly played out by the lively performance of students of ENH Spring 2018.
Lecturer Anika Saba supervised the play, acted out by students Nuhash Humayun, Asif Mahbub, Nabila Islam, Nishat Tasnim, Shamma Zehrin, Nawshin Sharmily and Sharzil Ahamed.
Credits also go to Zarifa Kabir, Zarin Tasnim, Afsana Nitol, Safen Roy, Tanita Hossain, Asma Sadia and Anika Tahsin (scripting and editing); Baizid Hoque and Sahadat Hossain (directing credit); and Ishmam Intesar, Shariar Moazzem, Rumnaz Binte and Abdullah Al Faisal (music credit).
Shammy Akter and Sadia Shahnaz (accessories); Maliha Rahman, Fatema Roushan and Farhana Supti (furniture); and Farhanul Hoque, Sultana Jakia, Afroza Zaman and Sultana Sarna (designs and other credit) also took part.
Other involved include Suvankar Saha, Sharar Galeeb, Maisha Drishti, Nurunnahar Chaity, Jannatul Atia and Rokaiya Sharmin Erina (costume and make up); and Aniruddha Majumder, Anika Tabassum, Showmik Joy, Maisha Tarannum and Jarif Faiyaz (marketing and pamphlet).
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Ansar Ahmed paid a visit and the ENH department Chairperson Professor Firdous Azim gave the concluding remarks.
The Department of Economics and Social Sciences Chairperson Professor ATM Nurul Amin along with other faculty members and officials were present.
