The 4th sub-regional workshop on Community Resilience to Climate Change in the Bay of Bengal Conference - 2017, was held at Spectra Convention centre in Gulshan in the capital from 17 – 18 December 2017. The workshop emphasized on finding a way to deal with the risks and adverse impacts of climate change collectively. Session 8 of the seminar titled “Children and Climate Change” was hosted by BRAC and focused on the effects of climate change on children and youth. The session was chaired by KAM Morshed, Director, Advocacy for Social Change Programme, Technology Division and Partnership Strengthening Unit, BRAC. The panelists for this session were Dr. Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus, Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research, BRAC University; Mr. Khurshid Alam, Assistant Country Director, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Dr. Safiqul Islam, Director, BEP, BRAC; and Sanjay Vashisht, Director, Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA).
Ms. Anima Ashraf, Environmental Management Specialist, C3ER, BRAC University presented an abstract on Impact on Children Left Behind Due To Climate-Induced Migration, based on two studies conducted by C3ER about migration and climate change. Ms. Jarin Tasneem Oyshi, Research Assistant, C3ER, BRAC University also attended the session as a rapporteur. The panelists had a discussion around about the issues of children in climate change scenario and came up with recommendations to address them from the community, civil society, and government perspectives.
