Below is a summary of the activities undertaken/commenced by faculty members of the School of Law in May 2018:
Dr. Saira Rahman Khan:
• Attended as an observer, the Universal Periodic Review held at the UN Human Rights Council, Geneva, from 9 – 14 May 2018.
• Presented a paper on ‘Torture and the Law: Rights and Realities’ at a closed meeting organised by the World Organisation against Torture on 11 May 2018 in Geneva.
Mr. Mostafa Hossain:
• Presented paper on ‘Deployment of Autonomous Weapons in Battlefield: The Significant Challenge of International Humanitarian Law’ in 6th Advanced International Humanitarian Law South Asian Academics Training (AISAAT) organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in collaboration with AsianSIL Bangladesh held on 9-11 May, 2018.
Mr. Saimum Reza Talukder
• Attended the Gwangju Human Rights Forum 2018 at Gwangju, South Korea from 14-21 May, 2018; organized by the May 18 Memorial Foundation. As an Alumnus of the May 18 memorial Foundation, Took part in several plenary sessions on freedom of expression, right to peace, rights culture and developments rights.
• Has been awarded a co-consultancy titled "Review and Analysis of the Digital Security Act-2018, Information and Communication Technologies Act -2018 and Pornography Control Act-2012" which is the part of "Sexual Exploitation of Children Online and in Travel and Tourism" project by Ain-o-Salish Kendra. The task is to review these three laws through academic study which includes organizing Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) in Khulna, Sylhet, Chittagong and Dhaka. The findings from FGDs will be shared in a national level dialogue which is scheduled to be held on 5 July, 2018 at the GDLN Center of BRAC University.
Ms. Anusheh Shiham Ali
