The Department of Architecture of BRAC University (BRACU) on Tuesday, 22 May 2018, presented the fifth “Noman Award for Excellence in Design (NAED) 2017” celebrating the best design project of the graduating batch of 2017.
The project, titled “Chach Nogori (Molt town): Revival of Metal Craft of Dhamrai”, was presented by Doito Bonotulshi under the supervision of assistant professors Mohammad Habib Reza PhD and Iftekhar Ahmed PhD.
It focused on the present scenario of Dhamrai’s artisan community specialising in metal crafts (brass, pewter, copper etc) and on attracting a larger tourist base there while offering a better quality of life for the inhabitants.
The award, sponsored by architect Khaled Noman, who is of Bangladeshi origin living and practicing in Chicago, aims to enhance student’s active participation in architecture design process.
The award presentation ceremony was followed by an exhibition of 10 final year projects, shortlisted by teachers and from which the winning one was selected by a jury panel comprising the teachers and external critics.
The department’s official logo, crest, mug and t-shirt were also unveiled at the venue in BRACU’s Mohakhali campus auditorium.
The department Chairperson Professor Adnan Zillur Morshed, PhD, faculty members and eminent architects Mazharul Islam and Kazi Khaled Ashraf were present.
