Five students pursuing BS in biotechnology and microbiology programs presented their theses on 29 and 30 April 2015 in Room UB 21511 of the MNS Department. Ms. Mashiat Nawar Chowdhury,
Ms. Tasmin Naila presented their research work in microbial biotechnology while Ms. Rhedia Tehrin Proma, Ms. Afra Anzum and Ms. Monisha Anindita presented their research study in environmental microbiology and bacterial genetics. Title of the thesis of Ms. Mashiat Nawar Chowdhury is “Isolation of kerosene degrading bacteria and determination of optimum growth conditions” while, Ms. Tasmin Naila presented her work entitled “Isolation and study of the optimum growth condition of diesel degrading bacteria from soil samples”. Both the research studies were conducted at the biotechnology lab of the MNS Dept. under the supervision of Dr. Mahboob Hossain. Title of the thesis of Ms. Rhedia Tehrin Proma was “Isolation of shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli 0157:H7 from bovine samples of Bangladesh”; while the title of the thesis of Ms. Afra Anzum was “Isolation of shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli 0157:H7 from street foods and raw vegetable”. Ms. Monisha Anindita presented her thesis titled “Antibacterial resistance: A comparative study between clinical and environmental isolates”. These research studies were conducted at the microbiology lab of the MNS Department under the supervision of Ms. Fahareen Binte Mosharraf and Ms. Namista Islam.
Five students pursuing BS in biotechnology and six students of BS in microbiology presented their internship reports on 29 April 2015 and 30 April 2015. They carried out their internship at ICDDR, B, Mohakhali, Dhaka and ACI, Dhaka under the supervision of Professor Naiyyum Choudhury. The viva-voce examination for both thesis and internship was chaired by Professor A. A. Z. Ahmad and attended by Dr. Mahboob Hossain, Dr. Aparna Islam, Ms. Jebunnesa Chowdhury, Ms. Romana Siddique, Ms. Fahareen Binte Mosharraf and Ms. Namista Islam. The Examination Committee appreciated the quality research work of the students and also appreciated the hands on experience they got at ICDDR’B and ACI.
