The Climate Reality Leadership Corps training was organized by Climate Reality Project which was founded and chaired by former US Vice President Al Gore. The Climate Reality Project is dedicated to catalyzing a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action necessity across the world. Abu Sadat Md Marjan Nur, Research Associate, C3ER, BRAC University participated in the 36th training session of Climate Reality Project which was held in Pittsburgh, USA from 17-19 October 2017. More than 1400 people from all over the world joined 36th training session in Pittsburgh. This three-day training gave the opportunity to the participants a new dimension of understanding of climate change and how to deal with the complex arenas of climate change impacts. This year the theme of the training was to make a sustainable future in reality.
The reason to organize the 36th training in Pittsburgh is that Pittsburgh is the best city across the US that demonstrates an example of how cities can fight for solutions while suffering the effects of decades of industrial pollution tainting water and dirtying the air at the same time. It also offered to learn from Vice President Gore, world-class scientists, policymakers, innovators from around the world and learn firsthand from their work in the respected fields. Vice President Gore’s presentation titled “The Climate Crisis and its solutions” offered the science of climate change and its impact at a global scale. There was some important discussion about how renewable sector is creating jobs in US market, future energy scenario, climate change strategy in a changing political landscape etc. During sessions, workshops, lunch, and receptions I got the opportunity to talk to people outside my table group. It was incredibly encouraging to see multiple generations joining together to fight for solutions.
