The team of CASPER- BRAC University and BRAC University Adventure Club (BUAC) travelled all the way from Dhaka to help and stand by the flood stricken victims of Thakurbhog village of Sunamganj. None of us honestly had any idea how much a flood can affect a village until we spoke to the people there. According to Zahir Raihan, ‘Everything went under water: the fields, the houses. Nothing was spared'. The only source of earning for the people in Thakurbhog village is through agriculture. People were devastated after losing everything to the flood. The hunger was evident on their worried faces. There was no way to tell for how long they were starving. The sight would bring anyone to tears. Along with the help of BUAC and Khuddro Proyas Organization, CASPER- BRAC University was able to distribute relief to 150 flood stricken families. Besides, a local organization of Sylhet, Shurjodoy Foundation also helped tremendously during the relief distribution. Without their help, none of these would have been possible. However, Popular Pharmaceuticals Limited, Nabisco Biscuit & Bread Factory Ltd, Chillox and some other supporters had made financial and in-kind donations to the project.
Muhammad Foysal Mubarak, Lecturer at BRAC University said that " BRAC University creates socially responsible citizen and our students always come forward to help the people in distress. Therefore, it is our duty to stand beside the flood affected people". The Vice president of Casper-BRAC University, Abrar Nur Ahmed Nasif in his speech said "I believe Haor people are not afraid of natural disaster and you will definitely turn around". The local leaders called upon everyone to donate generously and take concerted initiatives urgently so that people get a little help to rebuild their life.
