On 23June 2015, the second of seven sessions of2015 Distance Learning Seminar Series, “Human Capital and Innovation Policies” was held in GDLN video conference room at BRAC University (BRACU). It was titled “Human Capital Policy for Economic Development in Korea: Focusing on the Industrialization”. Annajiat Alim Rasel, Lecturer III and Undergraduate Course Coordinator from Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) along with many others from different departments of BRACU participated in the event. The key lecture was delivered by Speaker Song Chang Hong, Director of Policy Consultation, Center for International Development, Korea Development Institute followed by a discussion from Thuy Anh Van Nguyen, Faculty of Human Resource Management, International Training Institute of the University of National Economics. At BRACU, it was locally facilitated by Mohammad Aminul Islam, Manager, GDLN & IT.M. Mofizur Rahman, consultant at R&G Group was present as a guest. The session provided an overview on major constraints that prevented the accumulation of human capital during the industrialization of Korea, and how they overcome the difficulties, especially how the government coordinated the complicated issues, the major problems concerning the Policy of Education, Science, and Technology, and the kind of policy package that has been implemented by government to tackle those problems. More than 100 participants at 12 locations from 9 countries (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam) participated in the event.
