Department of Disaster Management and Environmental Studies holds logo launch and certificate distribution ceremony
The Department of Disaster Management and Environmental Studies (DMES) (formally known as the Department of Disaster Management) of the School of Architecture and Design arranged a special event on 14 December 2024 at the university campus.
The event was arranged mainly for three purposes: launching of the department’s logo, distributing HCM certificates to the participants, and launching the celebration of 2 decades of PPDM (Postgraduate Program in Disaster Management). Mr. Mizanur Rahman, Commissioner, Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) of the Government of Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest of this event. Mr. Asif Saleh (Executive Director, BRAC), Mr. Lance Bonneau (IOM, Chief of Mission, Bangladesh), Ms. Sumbul Rizvi (UNHCR Representative, Bangladesh), Mr. Alberto Bocanegra (Country Director, IFRC, Bangladesh), Ms. Sumitra Mukherjee (Country Director, Danish Refugee Council), K.A.M. Morshed (Senior Director, Advocacy & MEAL, BRAC), and Md Liakath Ali, PhD (Director, CCP, UDP & DRMP, BRAC) were present as special guests. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Imon Chowdhooree (Assistant Director, PPDM), and he also explained the mission and vision of the department and their future plan for starting the Bachelor of Disaster Management Program. The chief guest, along with all special guests, participated in a panel discussion session that was hosted by Professor Fuad Hassan Mallick (Dean, School of Architecture and Design). The panel discussed the need for education.
The newly formed logo of the Department of Disaster Management and Environmental Studies (DMES) was launched at this event by Dr. David Dowland (Registrar, BRAC University), Mr. Asif Saleh (Executive Director, BRAC), and Mr. Mizanur Rahman (Commissioner, RRRC).
The participants of two batches of the Humanitarian Crisis Management Certificate Program received their certificates from the chief and special guests. The certificate program was jointly developed by BRAC and PPDM of BRAC University and PPDM successfully run the program for two times. After the certificate distribution, the registrar of BRAC University announced the launching of celebrating 2 decades of PPDM as it started its operation in 2005 and will complete 20 years in 2025. The event was ended with cake cutting, a photo session, and cultural performances. Mr. Muhsammad Ferdaus (Lecturer and Coordinator, PPDM) played the key role of arranging the whole event.
