Climate Finance Transparency Mechanism (CFTM) has been initiated in January 2017 and is being implemented by a consortium (consortium-1) among Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, International Centre for Climate Change moreover, Development (ICCCAD), and the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) in Association with the British Council. The CFTM project is an innovative project that would enable the funding for climate change in Bangladesh to be more effective in helping the most vulnerable communities become better adapted to climate change impacts, and as well help improve the overall levels of transparency in governance in general in Bangladesh. The goal of this project is to increase the efficacy of climate change funds both from government and donors in tackling the impacts of climate change in Bangladesh. A session titled Accessing Global Climate Finance: Opportunity and Way Forward for Bangladesh (Experience Sharing with the Policy Makers) to share the experience with the government policy makers was organized by C3ER, BRAC University on 13 April 2017 at BRAC Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka. The meeting started with a welcome speech by Dr. Ainun Nishat. He explained the background of the climate finance and its implications in Bangladesh. He also briefed about the issue based project Climate Finance Transparency Mechanism (CFTM). Mr. Tanvir Mahmud, IBP Manager, Governance Expert, PROKAS, British Council, gave a presentation and explained the CFTM project’s background and the outcomes that are expected to be achieved. Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD, explained the current state of GCF and the priority of its fund disbursement policy. Later on, Dr. Nishat gave a presentation on climate change funds- an overview and process of accessing those funds. After that, he showed the opportunities and challenges for Bangladesh in the sector of climate change. After that, a question answer session was held at the meeting. This interactive session gave the opportunity to share the views of the government officials with the experts. They recommended some steps that would be beneficial in the near future.
