On 27th June 2016, ENH students organised its first-ever- Haiku poem reading session, which was followed by an Iftar Party held at the department. The Haiku session was centred around the Bangladeshi Haiku Poet Quamrul Hassan, who read haikus from his two books, The Spring Moon and Hyaku Haiku. His witty and scintillating poems enthralled the audience. The Haiku mood was further nurtured with Haiku recitations/performances by two of our students, Sheikh Nahiyan and Rasmia Rahman Amreen, who first read out six haikus of Quamrul Hassan, and then went on to twelve haikus written both in English and Bangla by four students of the department – Maruf Rayhan, Sheikh Nahiyan, Rashna Munwar and Alvina Mahzabin Chowdhury. The reading took the shape of a well-rounded cultural event with the theatrical performance of Rabindranath Tagore’s comedy piece, “Shukkho Bichar” by Maruf Rayhan and Arafat Habib.
Dr. Rifat Mahbub was the advisor of the Haiku-session, while the students’ spontaneous participation both as organizers and attendees made the event a successful one.
