On 29 April, 2017, Fabrication lab for Department of Architecture, arranged an inter university workshop on rapid prototyping for the students of Architecture. The workshop, ‘Palimpsest 3’, was on the rapid prototyping with 3D printer, 3D scanner and laser cutter of fabrication lab. Fab Lab is a project under HEQEP AIF Round III (CP 3061), Jointly funded by HEQEP;UGC, World Bank and BRAC University.
Students of different design studios of BRAC University and students of 4th year of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has attended the workshop. The day long workshop had been conducted by Abul Fazal Mahmudun Nobi and Riffat Farjana. The main workshop started with the presentation which includes different approaches of complexity paradigm for 3D printing, 3D scanning and laser cutting in architectural model making. First hand model making using the equipments of fabrication lab has been followed by the presentation. The whole workshop was based on the discussion of rapid prototyping, materiality and fabrication techniques. The outcome of the day long workshop is prototypical models which the students had made based on the presentation and discussion.
