BRAC Business School Alumni Network hosted an event ‘Marketing Marvels’ on 28 of February, 2015. The event was graced with the presence of the dean and senior lecturer of BRAC Business School, Mohammad Rezaur Razzak and the Co-advisor of BUMA, Tahsan Khan, Dr Aparna Islam, Director, Office of Co-curricular Activities (OCA). The main purpose of this event was to bring the current business students of BRAC University closer to their alumni and also provide them with an opportunity to hear firsthand experiences of what it is actually like in the corporate world so that they can endeavour to be the future marketing marvels.
Tajdin Hassan, who is currently leading the business development team in a renowned news agency, Ashraf Ull Bari, brand manager in Unilever and Stawb Peter Halder, founder of BRAC University Alumni Network were all present as guest speakers and alumni at the event to share their words of wisdom and experience with the students. Each speaker emphasized on how the corporate world is vastly different from the life the students are accustomed to and they helped set up a scenario of what is expected from them in the future. Stawb Peter Halder basically brought forth the need to have a strong student-alumni relationship so that the students are able to cope with all the challenges awaiting them in the future, by utilizing the information gathered from the well experienced alumni members. Tajdin advised the students to find a mentor, gather career information, be less of an introvert, build their own network, not be confined to just the grades, and to be imaginative Ashraf Ull Bari focused on self-development. He emphasized on being creative, having a diverse skill set, being bold and focused, learning to ask the right questions and to know people in general so that they are aware of your strengths. The sessions ended with an open discussion and free mingling between the alumni and the students which was a step towards the accomplishment of one of the goals of the event i.e. to bridge the gap between the students and the alumni. Apart from the aforementioned alumni members, many others took out the time to attend and they also helped to provide information and advice to the enraptured students. Special thanks go to The Daily Star for acting as the strategic partner and Radio Foorti for being the event partner.
