On the 24th of February 2025, the Microbiology Program, department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS) organized a seminar titled "Understanding Cancer from a molecular perspective, and reducing cancer risks".
The speaker of the seminar was Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub (DPhil in Oncology, University of Oxford) and Associate Professor, Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Dhaka. The Microbiology Program Coordinator, Dr. Nadia Sultana Deen introduced the speaker to the audience.
In this seminar, Molecular mechanisms of cancer, examining why certain cancers develop resistance and how modern scientific approaches are working to overcome this challenge, were presented and discussed. Finally, practical steps can be taken to reduce the risk of developing cancer were discussed.
Professor Dr. Jalal Uddin Ashraf, former Principal of the Ibrahim Medical College was present as the Discussant in the seminar. Faculty from the University of Shaka, BRAC University were present among the audience.
Professor Dr. M. Mahboob Hossain of the Microbiology Program also shared his thoughts and experiences. Participants of the seminar had an opportunity to ask questions to the speaker and experts.
