BRAC University Communication and Language Club (BUCLC) hosted the grand finale of ‘Public Speaking Competition 2017’ on November 19, 2017, at BRAC University Auditorium. Through this competition, BUCLC placed its utmost focus in developing students as exemplary speakers, project themselves as thought leaders, and showcase their capacity to express their ideas in public.
As part of the competition’s process, a three-day long audition was arranged from November 07 to November 09, 2017, where more than 100 students participated. Thirty participants were selected from the audition and offered three different workshops titled “Body Language & Expression for Public Speaking”, “Developing & Organizing Content for Public Speaking” and “Voice Projection & Expressing Emotion through Voice” to hone their skills. Finally, after the selection round was complete, only ten brilliant speakers were shortlisted to compete in the final round.
Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, Director of BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), graced the occasion as the guest of honour. In her opening speech, she said, ‘To be a global citizen and to be a future leader, there is no alternative to being good at public speaking. We live in a time when it is more than necessary and an almost basic skill that every student should have’. She also asked students to carry on with the ‘Inspiring Excellence’ spirit and come up with innovative ways to implement their ideas into actions.
Ms. Farina Haque, Lecturer at BIL & Co-adviser of BUCLC, and Ms. Tasmia Nawin, Lecturer at BIL, were present in the finale as honourable judges. The event came to an end with the award-giving ceremony acknowledging the success of the top three participants.
