Publications during the month of February:
1. An article entitled “Bangladesh Economy in 2018: A Prognosis” was published in Issue No. 131 of Market Pulse—a monthly journal of Lanka Bangla Securities. The article dealt with the challenges that are likely to confront the economy of Bangladesh in 2018 in light of emerging developments in key macroeconomic indicators.
2. An article titled “Biniyogkarider Ojoqtik Hotasha” was published in the Bengali daily newspaper Prothom Alo on 6 February, 2018.The article argued that there is no rationale justification for the recent significant fall in the stock market index.

4 February: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam along with Mr. Habibullah, Member, Board of Directors of Exim Bank participated in a discussion broadcast by News 24 TV Channel. The discussions focused on the present problems in the banking sector of Bangladesh with special attention to the need for providing credit to young and women entrepreneurs, particularly in rural areas.
13 February: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was the Chief Guest at a seminar organized by Business Hour 24.com. The other guests included Mr. Farooq Ahmed Siddique, former Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr, Ibrahim Khaled, former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr. Swapon Kumar Bala, Commissioner Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and Dr. Osman Imam, Professor of Dhaka University. The subject matter of the discussions was the role of initial public offerings (IPO) in promoting industrialization. The factors responsible for rather small number of IPOs, as well as actions needed to bring about substantial change in the present scenario were reviewed.
19 February: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was a participant in a TV talk show broadcast by DBC. The other participant was Mr. Robiul Alam, a leading non-resident Bangladeshi businessman settled in Japan. The discussions dealt with recent upsurge in flow of bank credit to the private sector, tendency towards a rise in interest rates and emerging pressures on the liquidity of the banking system and their implications for private sector investment.
25 February: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was a Special Guest at a seminar on “Challenging injustice in South Asia: A work programme for promoting inclusive development”. Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairmnan of the Centre for Policy Dialogue was the Key-note presenter. Dr Mashiur Rahman, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister was the Chief Guest. The other participants included Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Professor BRAC University, a number of other eminent economists and representatives from the private sector as well as from some embassies. The issues discussed related to promoting agrarian reform, enhancing the capacity of the poor producers to get a larger share of the value addition, democratizing educational opportunities and budgetary and financial policies for poverty eradication.

28 February: Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam was a participant in an Expert Group consultation organized by Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh. Ms. Nena Stoiljkovic, Regional Vice President of International Finance Corporation (IFC) was the Chief Guest. The other participants were mostly leading businessmen representing various Chambers of Commerce and Industries. The discussions dealt with the strengths of Bangladesh economy as well as the challenges from the perspective of accelerating private investment and thereby economic growth.
