The Fall 2017 orientation program of Residential Semester (46th batch) took place on September 09, 2017, at Markuli Hall, BRAC University Savar Campus. The orientation session was conducted by Mr. Rehan Ahmed, Campus Superintendent, and Ms. Farrah Jabeen, Senior Lecturer at BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL).
Mr. Ahmed started the day-long orientation session with a welcome note. He emphasized on the necessity of taking advantage of the unique experience of RS and then discussed the diversity of students and how students should use the opportunity of having this varied community in order to acquire new knowledge and excel in their competencies.
Later on, Mr. Ahmed and Ms. Jabeen put further emphasis on the importance of practicing English at Savar Campus and also on the competency that students must have in English for academic and professional purposes. The first part of the session came to an end with Course Coordinators’ discussion on the academic courses of RS, which are Bangladesh Studies, Ethics & Culture, English and French Languages.
In the second part of the session, Mr. Ahmed talked about “Social Capitals”, the honor code of RS, that students would have to follow for the next three months in order to ensure smooth community living, gain positive approach of sharing and caring, and enhance leadership skills.
Towards the end, Mr. Morshedul Haque, Assistant Campus Superintendent, introduced the students to the campus facilities, supports and services. Mr. Ahmed concluded the session by highlighting the need for strengthening their spirit to make the semester a successful one with the cooperation of all the stakeholders involved.
All RS faculty members were present at the session, along with BIL faculty members, part-time faculty members of RS, and management/admin staff. Overall, the day-long orientation session was successful in all aspects.
