A seminar entitled “Peoples' Climate March”, was organized by BRAC University Career Services Office in collaboration with Avaaz Bangladesh on 16th September, 2014, from 03:30pm at BRAC University Indoor Auditorium.
The event was opened by the volunteers of Avaaz Bangladesh. The purpose of this seminar was to urge the prime minister to ask industrialized countries to provide financial and technological assistance to the countries which are affected by climate change. The prime minister should also ask the industrialized states to curb their green house gas emission, they added.
Mr. Khan A. N. Murshid, Director CSO and also an Avaaz volunteer said, “ We should take this March for climate change as a wakeup call as we are the worst victim of this climate change.”
Mr. A. S. Moniruzzaman Khan, Assistant Professor & Director In Charge of C3ER, introduced C3ER to the audience and described some alarming consequences of climate change in Bangladesh.
From C3ER, Ms. Roufa Khanum, Lecturer, Mr. Asif Rahman, Lecturer, Ms. Farzana Rahman, Lecturer, Ms. Taslima Akter, Lecturer & Mr. Hasnaeen Zakir, Research Assistant, were present at the event.
An open discussion was carried out by Mr. Murshid where students participated sharing their views regarding climate change.
The activists brought out a procession on September 20 from Shahbagh to Jatiya Press Club to make people aware of the threats of climate change. Experts and activists engaged with climate change shared their thoughts and concern regarding climate change and its effects on Bangladesh with the volunteers.
Mr. Murshid stated, “Industrialized countries, which are causing climate change, should provide necessary assistance including immigration opportunities to people who may become climate refugees."
All the members of CSO were present at the seminar, namely Ms. Shanzida Shahab Uddin, Ms. Rakshinda Huq, Ms. Asma Akter Faria and Mr. Taz Uddin. With the help of Avaaz volunteers and CSO team the event concluded successfully.
