The Counseling Unit of BRAC University has been visiting the Medha Bikash, a program run by BRAC Education Program, to conduct a motivational session for underprivileged students coming from rural areas who had performed very well in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination. The Counseling Unit conducts motivational sessions for these students to help them to build confidence and motivation to study further and develop positive attitudes towards self and world.
Three members of the unit- Anne Anthonia Baroi, Md. Rakibul Hasan, Kazi Rumana Haque Monzia Mushtaq and Md. Saifur Rahman facilitated five sessions on December 02, 09, 17, 23and 30 respectively, where a total of 125 students were present. Each session were divided into two segments. In the first segment, the counselors facilitated session on particular psychosocial issues like: self-confidence, acceptance, goal setting, developing a positive attitude. In the second segment, a group counseling session was conducted to help students to share their problems with each other and how they can overcome these issues. Then individual counseling sessions were also given to the students who showed the need to talk individually.
At the end of the session, meditation was conducted for enhancing self-confidence and willpower.The session inspired students to get the broader picture of their situation, what they are up to, motivate them towards moving ahead with a positive attitude. Both of the sessions were very interactive and participatory.
