Recognising Consent and Choice, a joint initiative of JPGSPH and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust, organised a short film competition ‘Jiboner Golpe Cinema Banai’ or ‘Making Cinemas on Life-Stories’ for people aged between 18 to 30. A total of 117 short films were submitted and 15 were short listed for the ceremony. The jury members – women’s rights activist Khushi Kabir, independent film maker Shameem Akhtar, photographer Munira Morshed Munni, and anthropologist Proshanto Tripura - selected ten films for recognition. The award giving ceremony for the competition was held on 19th December, with “Living Dolls”, a film by Majharul Islam Soikot claiming the top prize. His film showed how patriarchy determines women’s lives and how they are made to play out predetermined roles in society.
