On 28th May, 2016, Fabrication lab for Department of Architecture, arranged a workshop on non Euclidean geometry for the students of Architecture. The workshop, ‘Palimpsest’,was based on the future of Architectural model making with Fab Lab for the skill development of the students of Architecture. Fab Labis a project under HEQEP AIF R III (CP 3061), jointly funded by HEQEP; UGC, World Bank and BRAC University.
Team members of the project including Dr. Mohammad Faruk, Sheikh Rubaiya Sultana, A.K.M. Sirajuddin, Abul Fazal Mahmudun Nobi was present in the workshop and shared their experiences with the project.
Students of different design studios attended the workshop. The day long workshop had been conducted by Dr. Mohammad Faruk, Abul Fazal Mahmudun Nobi and Riffat Farjana. The main workshop started with the presentation of Abul Fazal Mahmudun Nobi which includes different approaches of complexity paradigm.A brain storming and sketching session has been followed by the presentation. The whole workshop was based on the discussion of rapid prototyping, materiality and fabrication techniques. The outcome of the day long workshop is physical models which the students made, based on their sketches and discussion.
Fab Lab
Offers digital fabrication with the facilities to build accurate physical models of computer generated imagery. In the field of Architecture, Fab Lab is a technological innovation where design can be generated with rapid prototyping, a place of cultivating new ideas, creating a world network of sharing and a magnitude of different innovative technologies.
The prototyping models are produced using a wide range of equipment including computer controlled laser cutters, 3D Printers, 3D scanners and CNC Routers. This technology enables studentsto use a wide range of materials to achieve diverse results from patterned facades to intricate hybrid structures.
