Three members from the Counseling Unit of BRAC University Ms. Safina Binte Enayet, Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi and Ms. Kazi Rumana Haque, Psychosocial Counselor and Lecture attended four different workshops in the 4th International Conference on Applied Psychology was held in Hilton Colombo Residency, Colombo, Sri Lanka on 27th August 2017.
Workshop 1: Mindfulness, Meditation and Personal Growth facilitated by Mahalakshmi Rajagopal. The aim of the workshop was how mindfulness activity and meditation foster one’s personal and spiritual growth and to become aware about a person’s thoughts, feelings and handle them effectively in day to day life.
Workshop 2: Mental Health Recovery: Separating the personal and clinical aspect by Professor Jerome Carson. The workshop aims to know about the deference between the personal and clinical recovery. Besides that, how the approaches of the recovery help to promote the recovery based services in organization. Here, implementation of the positive psychology in the mental health issues was discussed in this workshop.
Workshop 3: Workshop on Positive Psychotherapy for Counseling by Chathurika Kannangara. The objective of the workshop was to explore the domain of the positive psychotherapy for counseling, clinical and personal recovery. Besides, a discussion held on the topics such as practitioner dilemmas, western and eastern approaches to counseling and challenges while using positive psychotherapy in sessions.
Workshop 4: Aura Enhancement and Personal Growth facilitated by Mahalakshmi Rajagopal. The objective of the workshop was to learn about the aura (field of human positive energy), chakras and how to cleanse emotional blockage by chakras cleaning. This leads to a human being for emotional growth and wellbeing.
Overall these workshops endorse the skills in counseling practice by applying the approaches of the positive psychology which will be helpful for the person as well as the organization.
