Recently three members from the Counseling Unit of BRAC University Ms. Safina Binte Enayet, Ms. Monzia Mushtaq and Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi participated in the five days workshop on Heart Centered Play Therapy, from November 23-27, 2014 which was organized by Institute of Educational Development (IED), BRAC University. It was an introductory workshop on play therapy which was facilitated by Susan Garofolo, B.A., CPT, CTT, Play Therapist and owner of Play Therapy for Children in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
The workshop covered contents like importance of play, effective use of self, introduction to therapy, directive and non-directive play therapy, heart centered play therapy, adaptation of above modalities, session on play therapy with children, therapy's sunshine circles for groups. The objectives of the workshop were to introduce the concept of heart centered play therapy, help participants to learn some effective tools of play therapy, so that participants can assist clients especially those who are age of between three to seventeen to release their traumatic emotions, enhance emotional, cognitive and behavioral competencies which ultimately would help client’s attachment with their family and peer group to be attuned and lead them towards positive self esteem, self empowerment and joyful engagement with surroundings. The presence of total twenty five enthusiastic participants in the workshop made the learning environment more interactive and prolific one.
