The Counseling Unit of BRAC University has been playing a prominent role in providing effective mental health services to the students, faculty, parents and staff. As a part of this concern, the Counseling Unit organized and participated in the workshop on “Mindfulness based Stress Reduction” which was facilitated by Lipy Gloria Rozario, Counseling Psychologist from September 02 to October 28, 2014. The duration of this workshop was seven sessions (24 hours). Total twenty five participants from different units of BRAC University e.g. Counseling Unit, TLC, CSO, Medical Unit, IED and Gender justice and Diversity Program of BRAC attended the workshop.
The workshop covered contents like cultivating compassion, authentic happiness, building optimism, forgiveness. The closing session was on marathon on mindfulness, it was a full day session out of the city at Savar residential campus of BRAC University. This session included silence retreat, mindfulness eating and walking, loving- kindness, body scan relaxation and meditation. At the end, an experience sharing session was held where participants and facilitator shared their reflection about the overall process of this workshop. Participants who attended the sessions shared a great deal of satisfaction from the meditation process.
This exclusive workshop would be highly beneficial for the participants to increase level of consciousness, attention, concentration, develop self-love and respect, positive attitude, non-judgmental and empathetic understanding. This unique exposure may help the participants to enhance and sustain healthy personal relationship as well as the quality of performance at workplace.
