The Centre for Gender and Social Transformation (CGST) at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University organised a workshop on Women, men and labor markets in Bangladesh: constraints, choices and policy challenges on December 2, 2017 at BRAC Centre, Dhaka. Dr. Shahidur Rahman, a faculty of ESS, presented a paper titled “Accord and Alliance: Institutional Burden or Positive Spill Over” Building on a survey with 150 factory managers from Bangladeshi garment factories, It was the first time in Bangladesh that the stories of managements on inspection process were shared with the audience. The session, chaired by Mustafizur Rahman discussed findings from ongoing research projects, focusing in particular on how employers and workers in the Bangladesh readymade garment (RMG) sector assess their experience with the Accord and the Alliance. Professor Naila Kabeer of LSE along with Simeen Mahmud of BIGD shared their research findings on workers’ experiences.
