Depression and suicide is fast becoming a very serious and prevalent issue in our society. Thousands suffer everyday due to depression; however it is not always taken seriously until it becomes too late. To raise awareness on the severity of this issue, BRAC University's infant club, BUCSC had organized their first big event on the 14th of November, 2017. Held in the university auditorium,the event was decorated with artistic and expressive posters and words.
Titled, "Walking with Lead Shoes" the event welcomed its main guests from the suicide prevention helpline, Kaan Pete Roi. The show consisted of an introductory speech from the university's Pro VC, Professor Ansar Ahmed, followed by an extensive presentation session by the guests and also a very interactive Q&A session with the audience. The presentation covered various aspects concerning depression and suicide, including why and how people become suicidal and what to do when someone is thinking of taking their life. The main focus was to aware people that depression is very real and to never take it lightly and always ask for help.
After the informative session, some very eccentric musicians from BRAC University as well as IBA took the stage. They entertained the audience with their amazing performances as they paid tribute to the recent lives lost due to suicide, like Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. The event was concluded by renowned vocalist and media personnel, Mr. Jon Kabir who graced the audience with his stories and advice on depression and also sang a few songs. Overall, the event was very well received and appreciated.
