Prior to joining the Department of Architecture of BRAC University, Mahmud was a full-time architectural consultant since 2001. He designed several residential and commercial building projects in Dhaka city. Apart from that he participated in different national and international architectural competitions. He and his team have received the Commendation for “Historic Preservation and Landscape Design of the Old Dhaka Central Jail and Redevelopment of its Surrounding Area”. He received the 4th prize of Resort Marco Polo Ideas competition in Italy and merit award for Tsunami Memorial design competition in Thailand.
