Research Areas/Interests
+–Peptides play central roles in many physiological processes. Therefore, selective and sensitive determination of peptides will provide important information in physiological and pathological studies. Derivatization provides selectivity and sensitivity for detection of peptides in complex biological samples even in small quantities. However, uses of currently available derivatisation reagents such as o-phthalaldehyde, fluorescamine, dansyl chloride etc. are restricted due to their non-selectivity. Consequently, peptide-specific chemical reactions are still in need for the facile identification of peptides especially in real samples. Dr. Yasmin focused on selective fluorometric reaction of particular peptides and its application to assay of specific proteins in her PhD research. She identified various catechol analogs that exhibit fluorescence properties which were then further applied in analysis of different peptides, proteins and enzymes. These studies were published in peer reviewed high impact factor journals such as Scientific Reports, Analytical Biochemistry, Analytica Chimica Acta etc. In addition to that Dr. Yasmin also worked in medicinal chemistry to synthesize more effective and less toxic new analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents and evaluated the biological activities of these agents. She published the findings in international journals with impact factors. Her research interest is mainly concentrated on analytical method development for pharmaceutical and biological molecules using UV-VIS spectrophotometry, Fluorescence spectrophotometry, HPLC etc., Synthetic Chemistry, Phytochemistry. Pharmaceutical Technology.
