Saiful Bari (Iftu) is someone who has had a very wide range of activities and interests from an early age. He has been involved extensively in Co-curricular activities since high school. He started debating when he was a 6th grade student, and logical reasoning and rational thinking has been his way of going about life ever since. His personality type is ENTP-A (interestingly, ENTPs are popularly known as “The Debaters”). His constant tendency to question the establishment and norms along with his expressive, headstrong and independent nature characterize him as a person.
Saiful finds immense satisfaction in problem solving, and he believes this skill to be his greatest inborn talent. It wasn't until 2010 that he began competing in Olympiads. He has since qualified for the national round of the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad on five consecutive occasions and the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad on three consecutive occasions. He also was a national winner of Math Olympiad in 2011. These events had given him the confidence to reject the conventional study method focused on rote memorization and instead prioritize a deeper grasp of the underlying concepts. He also loves to socialize and the idea of leadership intrigues him. He did his undergrad in EEE, BUET and was involved with several clubs including BUET Debating Club and Murchona BUET. He acted as the Vice President of BUETDC from 2019-2021 and was a member of BUETDC-Nandonik from 2018 to 2020, winning two national championships for his institution. During the lockdown in 2020, he got familiar with the field of Data Science and Machine Learning through online platforms and self-study. This sparked the beginning of his research career in applied ML. Digital Signal Processing and other facets of computer vision are also among his research interests.
In August of 2021, he began teaching at Brac University. Saiful has spent his whole life explaining complex ideas and convincing others of his arguments, meaning he was well suited to teaching. His experience so far has been nothing short of rewarding. Since joining Brac University, he has taught a variety of courses and coordinated the CSE250 lab (Circuits & Electronics). He is also a passionate sports enthusiast and a die-hard admirer of both Real Madrid and Bangladesh Cricket. The exciting area of Sports Analytics is where he hopes to use his expertise in the future.
