Dr. Sayem Hossain is an Assistant Professor at Brac Business School. He brings over 18 years of work experience from academia and industry. Studying and working in Australia for more than a decade, Dr. Sayem was always inspired to contribute to the education sector in Bangladesh and foster the entrepreneurial spirit among the student community.
In the last five years, Dr. Sayem served within the Australian public sector in the areas of Strategy, Research, and Evaluation. As a research and evaluation lead, he has worked in several educational programs related to student wellbeing, trauma-informed practice, disability, and mental health.
Before his exposure in the Australian public service, Dr. Sayem served as an academic within several Australian universities, including - University of Canberra, UNSW, and Southern Cross University. During his academic career in Australia, Dr. Sayem held academic leadership roles and taught courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels for more than eight years. Due to adopting innovative and contemporary teaching styles, he received ‘The Dean’s excellence award for innovative teaching’ from the University of Canberra and was nominated for ‘Vice Chancellor’s citations’ for student engagement from Southern Cross University.
Dr. Sayem has a bright educational background full of accolades and awards. He has a BBA and MBA degree in Marketing from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He completed a Masters by Research from the University of Canberra, Australia, and received ‘Dean’s award for excellence’ for the highest CGPA. After receiving a prestigious UCPRS scholarship, Dr. Sayem completed his Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales, Australia. His research focused on the impact of social enterprises in Bangladesh. During his Ph.D. fieldwork, Dr. Sayem had the rare privilege to interview Sir Fazle Hasan Abed as his research participant, which inspired him to learn more about BRAC and its excellence. Being adept in qualitative and quantitative research, Dr. Sayem has published several high-impact scholarly publications.
His research interest involves social impact measurement, sustainability, social entrepreneurship, innovation, and marketing. As a consultant, he has considerable experience in program evaluation, impact measurement, and data-modeling.
An entrepreneurial thinker, Dr. Sayem is also a prolific blogger and digital content creator. He likes to empower his students by imparting his knowledge on professional and personal development and, most importantly, living a meaningful life.
