
Syed Tawsif Munawar
Tawsif Munawar completed his Bachelor of Architecture from BRAC University in January 2022. His B. Arch Thesis Project focused on the ‘Design of an Elderly Care Center at Sunamganj, Sylhet.’ He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Disaster Management, with a focus on strategies for climate change adaptation and sustainable development.
Tawsif also works as a Sub-Editor at Bangladesh's most iconic newspaper, The Daily Ittefaq. For the past six years, he has worked with Ittefaq on a variety of youth issues. He has a long experience of working as a journalist for a host of regional and national newspapers. He currently serves as a news and content development consultant for the National Newspaper Olympiad. Studying architecture motivated him to think deeply about the lifestyle of people. He believes that journalism offers an opportunity to bridge a community’s aspiration for social justice and environmental resilience with spatial solutions that architecture can offer. Tawsif is an associate member of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB).
Tawsif undertook an architectural internship in 2020 at URBANFINITY in Sydney, a leading company for spatial technology, geo-referenced 3D mapping, and site analysis in Australia. He was responsible for mapping, modeling, rendering animations, and designing marketing campaigns. Tawsif led an offshore team for Urbanfinity, including a few architecture-engineering students from Bangladesh. Tawsif also worked with Certified Energy Australia as a Trainee ESD Engineer. The company assesses the energy efficiency of buildings and supports the local council of Australia. Tawsif served as President of the BRACU.arch Design Forum from 2020-2021.
In 2012, Tawsif secured the 2nd runner-up position at the National Science and Technology Week, a competition organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2015, he was the divisional champion in the Creative Talent Hunt Competition, organized by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, Tawsif was the winner in the Student Category of the Future of Classroom Competition, a competition organized by the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco. Tawsif’s core research interest is in urban planning, sustainable spatial development, and heritage conservation.
