The undergraduate Economics curriculum (BSS in Economics) consists of general education courses, non-major area courses, major area courses and elective courses. A student may also be required to take non-credit, remedial courses in English and Mathematics to make up his/her deficiencies. The 39 credits for GenEd courses is only applicable for students enrolled from Fall 2020 and onwards. Students following the 2013 until Fall 2017 sequence need to complete 21 credits of GenEd courses.
General Education (39 Credits)
Students must complete 39 credit hours in general education, which comprises of courses in English Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Communities Seeking Transformation. To fulfill the requirement of general education, the students need to complete courses as per the GenEd courses listed below. The BNG 103- Bangla Language and Literature course, EMB 101, Emergence of Bangladesh, and HUM 103 - Ethics and Culture courses are compulsory while students may choose the additional 30 credit hours or 10 courses as recommended by the GenEd department. It is important for students to check the list of courses offered by the GenEd department each semester before the advising period.
[1] Students who started the program in Spring 2018 and later, (prior to Fall 2020) will also follow the current GenEd format and choose courses from the new list but they are required to complete 42 credit hours as per previous requirement.

The 33 credit hours of elective courses can be selected from the Economics program or any other department, as long as they fulfill the prerequisites. In consultation with their academic advisor, a student may choose to take up a minor area of study like Business, Mathematics, English or Computer Science, along with the major in economics.
