BRAC Institute of Educational Development

Since its inception in 2004, BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BRAC IED) has been an active advocate and proponent in playing a key role in the education sector worldwide. From professional development to capacity building and research, it aims to redefine, reframe and re- envision education to share the voice of South Asia and Africa. The institute wants to tap into emerging areas of development by pioneering in early childhood development (ECD), psychosocial wellbeing, model development, mental health, primary and secondary education, higher education and curriculum.

Director's Message

Erum Mariam is the Executive Director of BRAC IED (Institute of Educational Development) BRAC University, in Bangladesh. Mariam completed her PhD in Education from University of Cambridge in 2008. She has extensive experience of scaling up education interventions both nationally and globally, and was involved in the expansion of the unique BRAC run Non-Formal Primary (NFP) Schools in the 1990s. Since 2008, Mariam has promoted BRAC IED’s vision of contributing to the improvement of quality, equity, and efficiency in the education system in partnership with the public sector. The globally recognized Play Labs and Humanitarian Play Labs have been developed under her leadership, focusing on early stimulation and children’s wellbeing in diverse settings.

History

Since its inception, BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BRAC IED) has been an active advocate and proponent of contributing to the development of education from a holistic perspective through professional development, capacity building, skills development, training and research. The institute aims to tap into emerging areas of development by exploring areas including early years’ learning & early childhood development, play-based learning methodology, psychosocial wellbeing of stakeholders from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, adolescent mental health, primary and secondary education and curriculum & textbook design.
