There is a recent shift towards critiquing existing preoccupations with logo-centrism and anthropocentrism in language studies, advocating for a post-humanist approach. This approach considers multisensory, multimodal resources, and ecological systems in meaning-making processes. With the transformation in the ontology and epistemology of language, language education has also undergone a notable metamorphosis in recent years.
In light of this phenomenon, in the international conference entitled Language Metamorphosis: Implications for Language Education in Decolonial Contexts (LMLEDC), BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University will highlight the transformation in language education that encourages the development of students and teachers’ critical language awareness, use of mother tongues, multi-model semiotic resources, collaborative learning and diverse sociocultural pedagogical approaches.
BIL invites papers, panels, and posters based on interdisciplinary studies on languages and their roles in society with reference to sociology, history, political science, anthropology, education, culture and media studies, critical geography, linguistics, and literature. BIL expects that LMLEDC will create an opportunity for scholars, researchers, language practitioners and post-graduate students to problematise linguicism and linguistic imperialism and generate ideas for ‘decoloniality in/as praxis’ in language and language-education policies and practices.
