The Department of Electrical and Electrical Engineering (EEE) under the School of Engineering offers academic advising to all undergraduate students of BSEEE and BSECE programs. In addition to the BU Office of Academic Advising (OAA) activities, the EEE department developed its own academic advising and performance monitoring policies.
• Each EEE student shall have an assigned academic advisor. An academic advisor is a full-time faculty member of the department.
• Students should meet with their assigned academic advisor once per semester at the time of course advising and registration period. In addition, students are strongly encouraged to meet their respective faculty advisor to receive necessary assistance regarding their academic matters, as needed.
• The department of EEE has a full-time designated person as Undergraduate Program Coordinator and Department Coordination Officer (DCO). Students may also contact the EEE Program Coordinator or Department Coordination Officer for information related to program curriculum, prerequisite, degree requirement analysis, and other policy matters.
• The scope of the academic advisors should be (but not limited to) the following areas:
- Help students develop an education plan that will help them realize their career goals and objectives
- Monitoring student’s academic performance as well as outcome achievements
- Guide the students in choosing courses according to their curriculum and assist them in course registration process.
- Ensure students’ progress as per the plan. Review the degree progression checklist so that students are on the right track towards their graduation and fulfilling the program requirements.
- Aware students about any changes in the program policies or requirements
- In case students face academic and non-academic difficulties, fall back from their target performance level, advisors should provide information about institutional resources that might help students to overcome their challenges.
Probation Monitoring Cell:
The Department of EEE has taken initiative to specifically address the special need and issues related to the students who are under probation. The departmental Probation Monitoring Cell, comprising the Department Chair, Program Coordinator and respective Academic Advisor of the student, will continuously monitor and guide the probation students through regular meeting and academic counselling sessions as needed.
Student under probation must meet with the Probation Monitoring Cell once per semester as scheduled by the department.
