BRAC University invites applications from exceptional academic leaders to lead the transformation of its Business
School as its next Dean. The School, situated in Dhaka—Bangladesh, will play a pivotal role in setting the standard
of management education in the South Asian country which has been experiencing high economic growth. The
Dean will have a unique opportunity to develop an enduring vision for advancing management scholarship and
effective pedagogy in a frontier market, leading the School’s transformation into a prominent management
institute in the region.
The University was established by BRAC, the world’s largest non-governmental organization that has positively
impacted the lives of millions. Recognizing the value of highly relevant and flexible academic programs that can
improve the global competitiveness of local industries, the University has set a goal to advance the Business
School to produce high impact research and enable excellent teaching and learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Dean will lead and administer the Business School. The Dean will be expected to engage in extensive planning exercises and oversee development. The Dean will lead critical activities such as the recruitment of outstanding faculty, establishment of local and international partnerships with industry and academia, development of curricula, and student recruitment. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Leading the School successfully to ensure timely accreditation by AACSB
2. Fostering student-centricity in every activity of the School
3. Establishing a positive work culture that promotes faculty-driven efforts, emphasizes shared governance, and encourages diverse perspectives, all the while prioritizing learner success
4. Ensuring that the School has an effective strategic planning process in place, and leading the School to fulfill an impactful mission
5. Cultivating local and global relationships to support activities and promote the image of the School; leading collaborations with reputed universities and organizations, including government and reputable businesses, to support the School’s mission and development targets
6. Leading faculty recruitment and nurturing faculty development activities particularly to attain scholarly output targets that are consistent with the School’s strategic goals
7. Ensuring learner success within the School by addressing all key factors that enable learning, including the implementation of innovative pedagogy and the use of instructional technology
8. Facilitating structured, faculty-led review of program curricula to reflect the latest standards in disciplines and encourage creative expression
9. Leading the development of programs at the nexus of business and industry, particularly with a focus on social impact, including offering high-quality executive education programs
10. Implementing an effective ‘assurance of learning’ program to support data-driven decision making and establishing a culture of assessment and continuous improvement in the School, leading to innovations in pedagogy
11. Leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive student recruitment plan
12. Leading quality assurance programs that are consistent with university-wide objectives as well as accreditation standards
13. Prioritizing expenditures and effectively managing the physical, fiscal and personnel resources of the School within the authority delegated
14. Leading active and meaningful engagement with alumni
15. Raising funds to the extent feasible to support strategic priorities of the School, particularly scholarly activities of faculty

QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a doctorate in business from an AACSB accredited school and a strong track record of scholarship, service, and teaching commensurate with the rank of full professor, as well as experience in administrative leadership positions. Previous success with external funding will be strongly preferred. The individual will possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, effective management capacity, and keen business acumen that can ensure successful, on-time accreditation of the school and its transformation into a reputable management institute in the region.
