The Department of Economics and Social Sciences (ESS) of BRAC University cordially invites you to the second Public Lecture on Reflections on Bangladesh Economy by Professor M.G. Quibria, to be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 3.00 pm in BRACU Auditorium.
Dr. M.G. Quibria, a Princeton PhD, is Professor of Economics at Morgan State University, USA. Prior to the current position, he held a number of positions in international financial institutions including Director of Research and Analysis, Asian Development Bank (ADB); Senior Advisor, Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI). Dr. Quibria also served as an advisor/consultant to a number of international organizations including the World Bank, ESCAP, UN-DESA, FAO, ILO as well as number of governments including Bangladesh.
The lecture will feature the role of factors such as social capital, aid effectiveness, corruption and governance, leadership, inclusive growth, and distribution of political capital in shaping the current state of the Bangladesh economy. It will also discuss on how the country’s economic future be influenced by changing demographics, the nature of political institutions, increasing Arabization of the Middle-eastern labour markets, automation and robotics in manufacturing; and the spectre of premature deindustrialization.
