The Anthropology Forum BRAC University (AFBU) organizes a dissertation presentation by Ms. Lutfun Nahar Lata, titled “Eviction, Urban Citizenship and Belonging: The Politics of Street Vending in Dhaka.” Ms. Lutfun Nahar Lata is a PhD Candidate in Sociology, School of Social Science in the University of Queensland.
Her talk focuses on the urban poor in Dhaka, and the politics of their eviction without relocation from public spaces by city governments in the name of developing a ‘global city’ image. Also in the discussion is whether central and local governments deny the urban poor’s right to the city by blocking their participation in formal planning and governance processes.
The talk is going to be held in the ESS Lounge (UB40602), 3 PM, on the 22nd February (Thursday) 2018.
