Since joining Brac University (BracU), The Vice Chancellor and President Professor Vincent Chang was concerned about the fact that in spite of being top ranked private university in the country, BracU still has no significant position on global map. So, he set his first priority to make BracU international.
He expressed in a town hall meeting that it was good to be the No. 1 locally but we were nowhere in the global map. “We are out of the map and internationalization is the only way to make presence on global map”, he said.
Prof. Chang recently met the CEO of The Global Business School Network (GBSN) Dan LeClair. Prof. Chang shared his goal with Mr. Dan and found similarities between the vision and mission of BracU and GBSN.
Considering Prof. Chang’s goal and efforts of internationalizing BracU, CEO of GBSN sent an invitation letter to BracU offering a full membership of GBSN on June 18, 2019. Generally, one has to go through an application process to be a member of GBSN whereas BracU was invited cordially.
“We are literally on the Map now” was the first comment of Prof. Chang after accepting the invitation from GBSN. BracU is not only honored but also proud to be the only university of Bangladesh to be a member of GBSN. Which is clearly visible on the map of GBSN on their website.
Reputed institutions like Columbia Business School (US), MIT Sloan School of Management (US), University of Glasgow, Adam Smith Business School (UK) are members of GBSN.
GBSN is a nonprofit organization that partners with business schools, industry, foundations and aid agencies to improve access to quality, locally relevant management education for the developing world. With a growing network of over 90 leading business schools on 6 continents, it foster cross-border networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration both within their network membership and with the broader business education and development communities.
BracU’s overall efforts in sustainability, entrepreneurship, and social justice are part of this opportunity. By joining at the institutional level, BracU already is challenging GBSN to innovate, referring the invitation letter.
This invitation includes Brac Business School of course, but it also extends benefit for whole university.
