The Office of Career Services & Alumni Relations (OCSAR), Brac University organized a virtual, alumni session, "Preparing for the Future Job Market in the Engineering Sector" on Thursday, 02 September, 2021.
The session was intended to provide a platform for the Brac University’s engineering students, graduates, and alumni to learn about the transformation in the engineering job market and equipping the youth for the new settings. The speaker of the session was Ms. Afifa Abbas, Cyber Security Chartered Engineer at Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd. She is one of the Brac University alumni members from the School of Engineering.
The discussions centered around essential and exceptional skills for engineering students, the latest trending technologies in the engineering field, significance of certification courses, various placement opportunities for engineering students, importance of freelancing skills and opportunities for having a competitive edge, the influence of Covid-19 in the engineering sector. Ms. Abbas emphasized on the certificate courses for the engineering students and also mentioned that pursuing different fellowships, internships and hands-on trainings increase the chances of a candidate to get selected for the job. She also talked about the creation of career opportunities in the engineering field during the COVID-19 pandemic as every day-to-day activities has shifted to online mode and became heavily dependent on the web applications. The session was inspiring and helpful for the students who want to be freelancers or want to start their career with renowned organizations in the engineering sector.
It concluded with a vibrant and interactive Q&A session where students queried about the skills and preparations needed in order to become successful professionals in the engineering field. The session was attended by the current students, alumni, faculty members and staff of Brac University.
