BRAC Business School (BBS) of BRAC University organized a seminar on “investment banking” on the Mohakhali campus on 13 April, 2023. The event aimed to make students aware of investment and financial markets as a part of course BUS102 (Business-Basics, Ethics and Environment). Kazi Zahir Abbas, Bashundhara branch manager of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage LTD, was the guest speaker of the event, which was moderated by Tania Akter, Senior Lecturer of the BBS, and which was attended by over 200 students.
Abbas enlightened the students on basic investment principles, types of investments, investment strategies, risk management and understanding market dynamics. On stock market investments, he discussed primary and secondary market shares alongside the risks and possible rewards. He taught students how to conduct valuation of a stock and different strategies like value investing, growth investing and income investing.
The official opened up on aspects of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX), on how to understand the stock market scenarios and when to buy and sell shares with some examples during the session. Moving on to the world stock market, he drew students' attention to some top brands, their stock value and ranking. He showed their investment strategies and the number of stakeholders they had from around the world. He then compared those with the Bangladesh stock market, listed brands and their conditions.
The speaker pointed out the demerits of chasing after rumors, saying it only takes away money and gives nothing back. However, he also expressed hope that in the near future there will be many market leaders in financial markets who will uphold the Bangladeshi stock market.
