A group of 52 biotechnology students of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at BRAC University went on a visit to the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research on 17 November 2022. The visit aimed to impart practical experience as a part of their industrial biotechnology and bioprocess technology courses, being taught by Assistant Professor Jebunnesa Chowdhury and Senior Lecturer Kashmery Khan.
Scientists including Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Analytical Service Cell, and Dr. Md. Murshed Hasan Sarker, Principal Scientific Officer of Genomic Research Laboratory, guided the students around the facility. They demonstrated analytical methods, including mass and ion spectroscopy and genetic and nanoparticle analysis, Bangladesh sole mobile air quality monitoring station, research facilities at biological research and biomedical division and spirulina culture at microalgae lab. The visit’s highlight was directly learning about the mechanics of next-generation genome sequencing instruments and temperature-controlled plant tissue growth rooms.
