BRAC Business School (BBS) hosted its first ‘Research Grant Award Ceremony’ at BRAC Centre Inn recently as an initiative to promote research culture. BBS aspires to see its name inhigh-ranked journals and other outlets. Under its current leadership, BBS has already gained a reputation in academic communities at home and abroad. To take this a step further, all the faculty members and research staff of BBS were invited to submit proposals for innovative and impactful new collaborative research.
Three thematic areas were chosen for the first such call: Financial Literacy, Women Empowerment, and Environmental, Social, and Governance Issues. All the submitted proposals were then reviewed by the internal reviewers based on the proposal’s intellectual merit and potential scholarly contribution, broader impact on society and humanity at large, and the opportunities for value creation that will uplift the image of BBS and BRAC University as a whole. Finally, 13 proposals were selected, and the award ceremony was hosted to acknowledge, award, and celebrate all the befitting research proposals and the research grant winners.
Professor Vincent Chang, former Vice-Chancellor, attended the ‘Research Grant Award Ceremony’ as the Chief Guest. Professor Sang H Lee, Dean, BBS, and Professor A.B.M. Mirza Azizul Islam, Professor, BBS also honored the event with their presence.
As the event commenced, BBS Dean Professor Sang H Lee narrated the importance of research in the academic field. He also emphasized how research fuels one’s growth and propels humanity forward. Professor Chang also voiced a few words of encouragement for all the
aspiring researchers present in the ceremony and stated how research is the key element in BRAC University’s excellence in higher education.
Following that, Professor Vincent Chang and Professor Sang H Lee came forward to present the awards to the thirteen felicitous winners of the research grant, namely: Ms. Tania Akter, Mr. Ahmed Abir Choudhury, Dr. Md Shahidul Islam, Dr. Asadul Islam, Dr. Syed Far Abid Hossain, Dr. Md Shamimul Islam, Dr. Md Enamul Hoque, Dr. Md Kausar Alam, Dr. M Nazmul Islam, Dr. Najmul Hasan, Dr. Sumon Paul Chowdhury, Dr. Md Arif Hossain Mazumder, and Dr. Md Mizanur Rahman. The event was winded up by a vote of thanks from Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Associate Dean, BBS followed by a dinner.Ms. Nizahat Tamima was the emcee for the evening’s festivities. The program was organized by Dr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Research Director, BBS, with support from Ms. Roksana Ahammad Happy, Executive Assistant to the Dean, BBS.
