Brac University Adventure Club organised a virtual marathon for students on 16 and 17 March 2021 marking National Children’s Day and the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Concerned over the safety of participants amidst the ongoing pandemic, the organisers asked students to use a Strava application. Strava is an internet service for tracking human exercise which incorporates social network features. It is mostly used for cycling and running using GPS data.
The students were asked to monitor their running duration and distance and send proof of their activity in a Google form created by the organisers. Students had the opportunity to participate in any of two distances, one of 5 kilometres and another of 7.5 kilometres. Medals and certificates would be provided to those who completed the 7.5 km marathon in 2 hours and the 5km one in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
