Brac University (BracU) took on a festive look inside its Mohakhali campus auditorium on Sunday, 10 February 2019, with traditional gaiety and religious fervour marking Saraswati Puja, the worship of goddess Saraswati by Hindus.
The day traditionally centres around a ritual called “Hatekhori”, the introduction of children to education and learning. Students seek blessings in their pursuit of knowledge, art, music and culture.
The day’s events started at 9:00am with “Anjali”, which is an offering of a handful of flowers, followed by “Hatekhori” and “Bani Archana”, which is the chanting of the name of the goddess.
The ritual ended with the distribution of “Prasad”, which are food kept in front during the worship, in the Prangan area. Students performed at a cultural programme in the afternoon.
The Office of Co-curricular Activities oversaw the event while Treasurer SN Kairy, Registrar Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (Retd) and students, faculty members and officials, irrespective of religious beliefs, joined the celebration and took part in the worship.
