BRAC University Computer Club organized a two-day workshop on “Introduction to Competitive Programming” at the university’s Research Lab Recently. The workshop was conducted by Kabbya Kantam, Lecturer of BRAC University, and Abid Mohammad Jawad, Software Engineer of bKash.
Kantam explained competitive programming and instructed participants to create an account at Virtual Judge, an online problem-solving platform that includes problems from other judges. Terming competitive programming a sport, Jawad explained its advantages such as enabling the enhancement of problem-solving capabilities and the importance of solving problems in an efficient way. He also gave advice on how to improve coding skills, including naming some popular online judges where a wide range of problems can be solved and current standings in coding can be availed.
Kabbya also discussed problems previously raised and possible solutions to those problems and played a “Nim game” with participants.
Jawad presented some problems involving solving algorithms like binary search and sort. He also played a game with participants as a practical demonstration of binary searching and gave some important suggestions on progressing in the field of competitive programming.
