BRAC University (BRACU) has organised a three-day orientation programme for new faculty members alongside new students of Fall 2018 and their parents ending at its Mohakhali campus in the capital on Wednesday, 12 September 2018.
The orientation for new faculty members was first conducted by Professional Development Centre at GDLN Centre for two days. The PDC director welcomed the newcomers through a video message, saying education was the most powerful weapon for changing the world and that good teachers must also inspire to be kind and generous.
Both orientation programmes saw the screening of a speech of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of BRACU and Chairperson of BRAC.
Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, founder and director of the BRAC Institute of Languages, informed parents how BRACU sought to teach students empathy and how to be more accepting towards living with others and food through a Residential Semester.
Registrar Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (retd) gave an overview of the campus and administration, saying BRACU focused on liberal arts education to build “complete” human beings. He urged the parents to stay connected to BRACU and to their children’s whereabouts.
Professor Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, PhD, dean of BRAC Business School, gave a brief on academic excellence.
Ismat Shereen, head of Relationship Management Office, informed that the amount of scholarships provided often went up to 10 percent of revenues instead of the University Grants Commission mandated 6 percent.
Dilara Afroz Khan, associate professor and director of the Office of Co-Curricular Activities, Office of Academic Advising and Office of Career Services & Alumni Relations urged faculty members to provide advice and expertise to student clubs.
Deputy Director at Human Resources Department Shadia Alam gave a short presentation on performance management, promotion and probation.
Campus Superintendent of Savar campus Rehan Ahmed gave an overview of the curriculum of the residential semester. Psychosocial Counselor Monzia Mushtaq and Shami Suhrid talked about the counselling provided at the university.
Rakib Avi from BRAC Social Innovation Lab gave a presentation on the synergy between BRAC and BRACU. PDC Assistant Director Shaheen Akhter hosted the program and gave an introduction of PDC.
The event saw the screening of video presentations giving participating freshers an overview of BRACU and its residential campus.
Representatives of several administrative departments also gave individual presentations regarding their services and BRACU alumnus reflected on experiences in BRACU.
