BRAC University organized an online orientation program for the new students of Spring 2022, on 10 February, 2022. The program was held at the university’s Mohakhali campus with very limited participants, following safety measures and hygiene. It was broadcasted live on the university’s Facebook page.
Professor Vincent Chang, Vice-Chancellor, attended the event as the chief guest while Ms. Sara Zaker, actress, director, business entrepreneur and social activist graced the occasion as the special guest. Dr. David Dowland, Registrar, and Dr. Samia Huq, Dean, School of General Education, also attended the event.
Dr. David Dowland welcomed the students and shed light on several aspects of BRAC University’s current internationalization activities and global affiliations. He encouraged the students to utilize these opportunities and thrive for excellence.
Dr. Samia Huq discussed the universities continuous effort to uphold its’ General Education program according to its international standards. She elaborated some significant features of BRAC University, such as – Residential semester, affiliation with prestigious ‘Open Society University Network (OSUN)’, etc.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Vincent Chang encouraged the students to becoming true to themselves while choosing career path. He advised them to hear their inner calling and pursue it with passion and discipline. He summarised the purpose of BRAC University’s student life as creating curious global citizens who will be kind towards people. He mentioned the students as diamonds which hold the potentials to be transformed from raw diamonds to shining diamonds.
Ms. Sara Zaker congratulated the freshmen for getting enrolled in BRAC University. The university has a great heritage which has been led by the visionary Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, she said. She also praised BRAC University’s mission and vision, liberal arts curriculum and increasing international profile.
The program screened a video tribute to the founder of the university, Late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG and a video celebrating its 20th anniversary. The program ended with awarding token of appreciations by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Chang to the winning team of prestigious Cambridge Intervarsity debate tournament, Sajid Asbat Khandaker and Sourodip Paul, IEEE Student Branch of BRAC University and recipient of Global Undergraduate Students Award Winner, Masuda Khan.
